The James Webb Space Telescope was positioned precisely in a transfer orbit at the Lagrange L2 point, 1.5 kilometers from Earth, thanks to a precision launch with an Ariane 5. This level of precision makes a huge difference: James Webb was able to save a lot of its onboard fuel which would normally be used for course corrections and maintaining its trajectory despite gravitational anomalies. The result? 10 years of initially planned life, almost 20 years of expected life thanks to the precision
