Hello from Atlanta, dear all! Onstage at Spivey Hall in just over an hour, playing Beethoven’s transcendent last sonata and the Brahms piano quintet with the Escher String Quartet. What do you think to this variation from the second movement of Beethoven’s last sonata? I’ve heard it called boogie-woogie or proto-jazz, but I’m not sure. To me it seems a natural development from the previous variations in the movement and a natural expression of the music’s exuberance and overflowing life energy.
